Ministry & Service Opportunities

Although this section of opportunities to serve our Lord is very broad in each person's ability, each and every volunteer is vital to the success of the ministry that is done at Chapel of the Cross. “For the body does not consist of one member but of many.” 1 Corinthians 12:14 Therefore, if you have a desire to serve in any of these areas and are interested in becoming more involved please call the church office.

  • Altar Guild
    Each week we prepare the altar for worship to include communion, when appropriate, and clearing the altar at the conclusion of worship.
  • Andrew Pelley Library
    Between services on Sunday morning we provide resources (books, videos, etc) and services to members of the congregation to aid in their study of God’s Word, Christian growth, and mission awareness.
  • Archives
    Locating and arranging the past records of the congregation to preserve them for future reference and research.
  • Banner Creation
    Making banners for all occasions including baptisms and altar cloths.
  • Chapel Circle (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League)
    To bring together all ladies in the congregation for Christian fellowship and to serve our Lord in His Church whenever or wherever needed.
  • Children’s Doodle Bags
    Preparing bags of coloring pages and small books to assist parents of small children during the worship service.
  • Coffee Service
  • Preparation of coffee/tea/hot chocolate and refreshments for fellowship between early worship service and Sunday School/Bible class.
  • Cradle Roll
    Send baptismal remembrances to children on their 1st, 2nd and 3rd baptismal anniversaries.
  • Decorating Committee
    People who enjoy working with others to adorn the sanctuary with decorations for major holidays.
  • Feed My Sheep
    Provide food for the needy through the Oasis Food Pantry and the Concordia Seminary Food Bank.
  • Friendly Visitors
    Teams visit members of Chapel who have an extended illness, hospitalization, are bereaved, homebound, or in a nursing home.
  • Gardening Committee
    To develop and maintain landscaped areas around the church.
  • Greeters
    To make everyone who comes to Chapel feel welcome and glad that they worshiped here.
  • Handy Helpers
    Opportunities to share skills & talents to repair and maintain building and equipment.
  • Keenagers
    Seniors age 60 and over who enjoy fellowship opportunities and visiting points of interest in and around the community.
  • Kitchen
    Oversees the use of the kitchen area for special events and other activities.
  • LAFF (Lutherans After Fun and Fellowship)
    Provide opportunities for fellowship/interaction of members of Chapel to grow in their church family relationships.
  • Meals of Comfort
    Provides the set-up, serving, and clean-up for luncheons following funerals at Chapel.
  • Meals of Love
    To provide home-cooked meals to those in special need.
  • Family Life Ministry
    Supporting and equipping families for growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ and one another in the family. This includes all families whether dual parent or single parent households. Special family seminars & group events throughout the year will be announced.
  • Ministry to Men
    Provides Bible study, fellowship, service and spiritual growth opportunities through group study, retreats and special events for men.
  • Ministry to Singles
    A devotional, Bible study, social, support and service group for singles desiring to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and one another.
  • Ministry to Women
    A devotional book study, social and support group for women of all ages desiring to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, their families, friends, church, community and other women. Book study meets Tuesday evenings in the fall with special events throughout the year.
  • Ministry to Young Couples
    A devotional, study, social and support group for younger, married couples including those who are soon to be married.
  • Missionary Watchers
    A group committed to helping our congregation stay aware of Lutheran missionary activities around the world and involving ourselves in their support.
  • Prayer Chain
    A group of faithful members who use the power of prayer to help those whose needs or situation can benefit from God’s loving intervention.
  • Ushers
    Provides for orderly worship services through bulletin dispersal, assistance in seating, offering collection and communion assistance.
  • VBS (Vacation Bible School)
    Help to develop, coordinate & serve at Vacation Bible School for children.
  • Wacky Tackers (Quilters)
    This group tacks (knots) quilts to be sent through LCMS World Relief to those in need within third world countries, and are sometimes utilized in cases of major disasters worldwide.
  • Welcoming Committee
    Attend new member orientation. Welcome new members by calling and/or visiting to introduce them to classes and committees offered at Chapel. Coordinate articles for the newsletter and photos for the bulletin board.
  • Wheels of Love
    Provides older adults with transportation to and from worship service and for special needs when they arise.
